Maximo

Highlights from the November 2023 UK & Ireland Maximo User Group

The recent Maximo User Group (MUG) event brought together professionals from a range of industries, including life sciences and renewable energy, to showcase their experiences in Maximo. The MUG events, are a great platform for knowledge sharing, connecting with people on similar journeys and provide a fantastic opportunity to become part of a friendly and supportive community.

The theme of the day was Mobile and each of the presentations shed light on their learnings around using mobile in their organisations.

First up was Stef Georgi and Joseph Mahaz from Porton Biopharma (PBL). They shared their EAM journey, which commenced in 2008 with the implementation of Maximo.

Stef highlighted how they adopted PowerBi dashboards for key performance indicator (KPI) reporting and introduced campaign-based maintenance. Looking ahead, PBL outlined their future roadmap, which includes the integration of a mobile solution called Atlas Fix & Inspect, promising streamlined work request submissions in just three clicks!

Drax were up next with their presentation, From Pen to Pixel – Revolutionizing Stock Checking

Jonathan Snook detailed the challenges and solutions encountered in revolutionising stock checking at Drax using Maximo mobile. The transition from traditional pen-and-paper methods to a digitalised warehouse management system aimed to eliminate inefficiencies stemming from data duplication and manual processes.

Jonathan emphasised the ergonomic impact on staff well-being, noting the reduction in fatigue and improved productivity. The implementation of mobile technologies not only streamlined stock checking but also led to more efficient queries and enhanced customer service. The presentation hinted at future stages of development, including the incorporation of pictures against stock items in Maximo.

Paul Daly from Uisce Éireann Irish Water shared insights into their mobile working transformation, highlighting the importance of end-user involvement. Paul outlined the challenges faced with previous ways of working, emphasising the lack of engagement and difficulty in using the interface. The transformative journey involved user feedback sessions, collaborative app design, and a keen focus on simplicity and ease of use.

The presentation stressed the significance of end-user engagement, quoting, “It always comes back to the users.” The success story involved a massive project rollout in 2023, resulting in 900 users benefiting from improved data opportunities, system enhancements, and integration and communication opportunities.

Mobile Panel

The MUG event’s mobile panel delved into top use cases and shared valuable insights. Among the notable highlights were a 20% increase in efficiencies for technicians in inspections, improvements in the number of work orders closed, and enhanced first-time fix rates with readily available information.

The event also addressed common mistakes and challenges during implementation. Speakers emphasised the importance of choosing the right product, involving end-users from the outset, and understanding the complexity of the process. The focus on mobile solutions as a business, not just an IT solution, underscored the need for strategic planning and engagement.

If you are involved in Maximo, you need to be at these events. Look out for an announcement of the next date in May 2024 in Dublin.
