Harbour Energy Case Study

 Part 1: Background

Harbour Energy is the largest London-listed independent oil and gas company with a leading position in the UK, as well as interests in Indonesia, Vietnam, Mexico and Norway. Electra Learning were approached to roll out their Learning Toolkit platform as a flexible alternative to an ‘off the shelf’ LMS package.

Part 2: Business Challenge

Client: What challenges were you and your team experiencing prior to working with us?

Initially Harbour had no Learning Management System in place – this was beginning to affect operational efficiency, reporting and timekeeping. Main issues in finding a suitable platform included:

  • Lack of flexibility and customisation options from ‘off the shelf’ LMS packages.
  • Decreased operational efficiency due to data stored across several, incompatible, platforms with no central point of organisation.
  • No comprehensive reporting system.
  • Poor accessibility to a full spectrum of courses and content with limited function globally.

Client: What possible solutions did you consider?

  • SharePoint or Teams were considered as existing systems – however these could not provide the ease of management needed

Part 3: The Solution

What was the solution that was implemented?

The Learning Toolkit offers a flexible and cost effective alternative to a traditional LMS – It decreases time consuming administration associated with coordinating training, while empowering learners to take control of their training. Electra have developed a three tiered approach to resolving the initial problems, centred around Flexibility, Automation, and Integration. By focusing on these major factors, the system currently in place for Harbour has provided significant and measurable benefits.

Part 4: The Result

Client: Are there any specific measures by which you can demonstrate improvements (e.g., operational efficiency, cost / time savings, standardising process, quicker time to adapt, reporting and visibility)?

Flexibility

  • Hosts over 8000 learners on the site.
  • The site is fully branded to the company, with different audiences set up for different levels of users. This allows the offering of Dashboards, Reporting, Restrictions and Access to a multitude of areas depending of customisation.
  • Notifications are sent out to learners and managers for different elements, such as Booking confirmation, Appraisal details, Recertification of training and course enrolment requests.

Automation

  • The Recertification function has significantly helped the automation of training rollout on a regular basis, informing the manager if training has not been completed on time.
  • All courses within the system have a certification of completion that uses data from the site to pull in specific information. The certificates are fully branded to the company.
  • Custom reports were created for specific users and courses – all have their own unique filters than can be saved for future use. These reports were automated to be distributed to users as well as 3rd Parties.

Integration

  • Reports cover over 60,000 completions across various content. Many of these courses provide digital badges for completions of a course or suite of courses. These completions are passed onto the company’s internal competency platform, tracking staff against their company matrix through direct integration into their operating system.
  • The site can be accessed on all devices and locations. The site is used globally and there is a built in option to localise parts of the system for learner specific areas.
  • An App is used to access training and records as well as being able to retrieve content offline to be updated later, once a connection is established.

Approved Testimonial

“When we first approached Electra we had no company Learning Management System in place – we had looked at various other companies offerings but had found that nothing compared to the functionality and value that Electra could offer. Electra were able to use their technical expertise to provide company specific eLearning modules that were tailored to our needs. This along with the Learning Toolkit has changed the way we work for the better; with significant improvements to our operational efficiency, standardising process, reporting and time keeping. We absolutely could not have achieved this without Electra’s great support!”
