Maximo

West Mountain Maximo Users Group 2024

Returning from the West Mountain Maximo Users  Group (WMMUG) in Denver, Managing Director Allison Quinn shares her summary from the event.

I was fortunate enough to attend the West Mountain Maximo Users Group conference in Denver at the end of June.

The West Mountain group was established to support and promote Maximo users and is comprised from the rocky mountain areas including Colorado, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming.

Our venue in the Cherry Creek area of the city of Denver gave a beautiful view of the Rockies and Denver’s downtown from the South.

We began with a round of introductions from the many attendees from The US Bureau of Reclamation, Denver Airport and a representation of utilities and other industries. There was also a review of the interesting planned two day agenda.

The keynote speaker (Rueben Viaurrazaga, Infrastructure Investment Manager) kicked the event off with an incredibly fascinating keynote speech on the history of the US Federal Bureau of Reclamation. The bureau was formed and committed to managing water and resources across western United States as a result of the passing of the Reclamation Act in 1902. In the jargon of the day, irrigation projects were know as  “reclamation” with the concept being that irrigation would “reclaim” arid lands for human use.

They are currently progressing a project to evolve the use of IBM Maximo through a unified server and expansion to 26 sites and 1300 users. This project will ensure streamlined operations and maintenance, with enhanced data integration and analytics. Rueben explained the pivotal role that MAS will play in realizing this vision.

As Rueben stated: “People are our biggest asset and its important to us that we look after them”.

Some other highlights include Klaus Roder from IBM on how AI and Generative AI process transformative capabilities across the entire business landscape. With its application in emission calculations, fire or flood detection and its ability to summarize large volumes of documents, and answering complex questions. Klaus presented a comprehensive exploration of a sustainable technology. We also participated in roundtable discussions with experts in attendance on Design, technical aspects, GIS,  Mobile, Inventory and Planning and Scheduling. It was really energizing to hear the appetite for training and change management in their future plans. During the sponsor pavilion Electra was able to demonstrate some examples of our eLearning, our expertise in Change Management and discuss some Case Studies in order to share some lessons learned and best practices from our previous project work.

All in all, a really energizing couple of days in Denver and thank you as always to the volunteer organizers and the enthusiastic attendees.

Looking forward to next year!
