Returning from the GoMaximo event in Houston TX, Learning Consultant Darrell Hepburn reflects on his experience and shares key insights from the conference.
While sitting in the airport on a stop-over of a long flight, I’m reflecting on my recent trip to Houston TX where I attended the 2025 GOMaximo convention.
For those that don’t know, GOMaximo is a working group where gas and oil industry professionals can gather and share ideas, best practices, and learn from each other about their experiences with MAS (Maximo Application Suite).
Held at the Westin Oaks Galleria, this year’s conference marks an impressive milestone celebrating 40 years of IBM Maximo. I feel honored to have been able to attend and represent Electra, a GOMaximo sponsor. Sessions were packed with insights into upgrade strategies for MAS (Maximo Application Suite), an overview of apps within the suite, and a keynote where we saw a sneak peek into what’s coming in MAS 9.1. Even our North American Managing Director, Allison Quinn, spoke. She delivered a comprehensive presentation on best practices for training and change management, emphasizing the people side of change when it comes to upgrades or implementations.
With so many presentations available to attend, it was impossible to see them all. From the sessions I did partake in, I came out with some key takeaways.
Reliability Strategies
For those who aren’t familiar, the Manage application in MAS plays host to a Reliability Library. Derek Valine, from IBM, provided a comprehensive overview of how you can apply RCM and FMEA strategies from pre-built templates and plans. What I found most exciting is that in MAS 9.1, these libraries move from read-only to actionable plans, making implementing them that much easier.
Health
Omar Chaar, with SMS, spoke about the Health module, also part of the Manage application in the suite. His insights showed how leveraging this powerful tool is an excellent jumping off point to start monitoring asset condition in real-time, even without configuring integrations or complex IoT sensors.
Finally, one big highlight was being able to bond with our IBM friends and partners over dinner, where we bumped into the Steve Kerr, coach for the Golden State Warriors. We wished him luck on his gain against the Houston Rockets.
In closing, the week was a big success with lots of takeaways. A big thank you to all the organizers, sponsors, and speakers at GOMaximo 2025.
