Celebrating ten years with Electra – Roger Laycock

Delivery Manager, Roger Laycock, has recently celebrated his ten-year anniversary as part of the Electra team. Read his personal reflection on how it all got started and what it has been like working with Electra over the last decade.

It’s hard to believe it’s been a full decade since my first day at Electra Learning. Before joining Electra, I worked in the Canadian educational publishing industry and was heavily involved in the transition from paper-based resources to online learning materials. I was also finishing up my master’s degree specializing in distance education and looking for an organization where I could put my expertise in learning to work.

In late 2014, I interviewed with Electra Learning, a company from the United Kingdom that had two people working in Canada in a small one-room office specializing in something called “Maximo”.

A few months later, in February 2015, I joined Electra, and we became a three-person team of Learning Consultants with one client. Within a year, we tripled in size to a team of nine, and within four years, we were supporting multiple clients and had twenty staff members in North America. I’m sure this growth can be attributed to Electra’s commitment to its clients and the desire to help them learn in the most effective ways possible.

Although the company has grown, it has managed to keep its focus and build relationships with clients on a personal level. I have also seen the benefit to our clients from our growing team with the unique skills and expertise we have here now at Electra. I’ve also enjoyed being a part of the management team for the last five years, working with our wonderfully talented staff.

Looking back, I remember feeling like I was taking a risk working for a small company getting its feet wet in North America but knowing it might pay off. A decade later, it certainly has.
